It stems from a tumour - usually benign and not cancerous - on the pituitary gland. Such tumours are operable, and, in worst case scenarios, the pituitiary gland can be removed but the patient constrained to take hormones to replace those that are no longer produced (by the pituitary gland). I don&#39;t understand why this poor woman was not diagnosed and operated on years ago.
